About

The title of this blog is borrowed from Yochai Benkler’s article Sharing Nicely: On shareable goods and the emergence of sharing as a modality of economic production.

Bokaap is a predominantly Muslim Coloured (If you gasp at the use of this term, relax! the Cape Coloured are an officially recognized group of the South Africa population - it’s not a derogatory term for black people, who are called black or African in South Africa) community in the city bowl of Cape Town. I live in Bokaap and enjoy its community vibe; people know each other, and you greet your neighbours on the street instead of hiding behind high walls.

My work is at the University of the Western Cape - where I do research and run projects in the area of open education; and at the United Nations University where I am part of the Collaborative Creativity Group, and lead the Open Courseware Project.
